About Sirah Our sources & methodology

Sirah is a free Islamic study platform for reading source-attributed hadith texts, searching established collections and following structured lessons. Its AI assistant provides source-linked answers for further study; readers should check quotations, references and explanations against the cited sources. Read more about Sirah and our methodology.

While both are considered the most authentic books of Hadith (Sahihain), Sahih al-Bukhari is generally considered the most authentic due to Imam Bukhari's stricter criteria for the chain of narrators. He required proof that the narrator actually met the person they narrated from. Sahih Muslim, on the other hand, is highly praised for its logical flow and thematic organization of Hadith variations in one place.

Scholars use a rigorous methodology to verify Hadith:

Check the Isnad (Chain): Ensure there is a continuous, unbroken chain of narrators back to the Prophet (PBUH).
Assess Narrator Reliability: Each narrator must be known for exceptional memory, honesty, and piety (Ilm al-Rijal).
Examine the Matn (Text): The text itself must not contradict the Quran, established Sunnah, or logical facts.
Consult the Grading: Look for the scholarly grading (Sahih, Hasan, Da'if) assigned by experts like Imam Bukhari or Imam Tirmidhi.
