Women in Islamic History • Lesson 7.8
Curriculum Breakdown
Khawlah bint Tha'labah
Khawlah (ra) is the woman whose voice was heard above the seven heavens. Her story highlights the importance of justice and the Divine care for the concerns of women.
Seeking Justice
Khawlah (ra) faced a difficult marital situation (Zihar) and sought justice from the Prophet (ﷺ). She argued her case with persistence until Allah revealed the opening verses of Surah al-Mujadilah (The Pleading Woman).
Divine Response
Allah declared that He had heard her plea, establishing a new legal standard for the protection of women's rights. Her story shows that no concern is too small for Allah and that justice is for all.
"Allah has indeed heard the speech of the woman that pleads with you concerning her husband and carries her complaint to Allah."
Quran (58:1)
Modern Applications
Speaking up against unfair treatment and seeking justice.
Trusting that Allah hears the sincere pleas of the oppressed.
