Muslims in the Modern World • Lesson 5.12
Curriculum Breakdown

Environmental Stewardship (Khalifa)

Humanity has been appointed as Khalifa (steward) of the earth. Ecological destruction and climate change are significant modern crises.

Foundations

Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned. (Quran 30:41). Mizan (Balance): Allah created the universe in a delicate balance. Human actions must aim to preserve this balance.

Stewardship

Avoiding Waste (Israf): Environmental degradation is often a result of excessive consumption and waste. Mercy to the Creation: Our responsibility extends to animals, plants, and the entire ecosystem.

"If the Day of Resurrection begins and one of you has a small tree in his hand, if he can plant it before he stands up, he must do so."

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Modern Applications
