Islamic Spirituality - Tazkiyah & Ihsan • Lesson 2.4
Curriculum Breakdown
Gratitude
Gratitude is the heart of worship. Recognizing Allah's blessings leads to an increase in provision and inner peace.
Introduction
Shukr is acknowledging that every good thing comes from Allah. It is manifested through the heart (belief), tongue (praise), and limbs (service).
Quranic Foundation
"And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]...'" (14:7). Gratitude is the key to abundance.
Qana'ah (Contentment)
Contentment is the wealth that never diminishes. It is being satisfied with what Allah has decreed while still striving for excellence.
"He has not thanked Allah who has not thanked people."
The Prophet (ﷺ)
Modern Applications
Keep a "Gratitude Journal" to count daily blessings.
Avoid the social media trap of constant comparison with others.
Say "Alhamdulillah" specifically for things we often take for granted (breath, eyesight, safety).
Critical Reflection
Do I spend more time complaining about what I lack or thanking for what I have?
Is my happiness dependent on my circumstances or my connection with Allah?
How can I express gratitude through my actions today?
