Family Life in Islam • Lesson 3.7
Curriculum Breakdown
Parenting
Parenting in Islam is a form of stewardship. Children are an "Amanah" (trust) given to us by Allah to be nurtured into upright believers.
Introduction
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Give your children good gifts and perfect their manners." (Ibn Majah). Our role is to provide both material sustenance and spiritual education.
The Goal of Parenting
The goal is to raise "Saliheen" (the righteous) who will perform "Sadaqah Jariyah" (ongoing charity) for their parents after they pass away.
Influence vs. Control
We cannot control the outcomes, but we are responsible for the process—modeling faith, provide a loving environment, and making constant Dua.
""O my son, do not associate anything with Allah... establish prayer, enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong..." (31:13-17)."
Luqman the Wise (to his son)
Modern Applications
Be the "first teacher" of faith for your child; let them see you praying and reading Quran regularly.
Prioritize character development (Akhlaq) over just academic grades.
Create a home environment where children feel safe to ask questions about faith.
Critical Reflection
Am I raising my children for this world or for the next?
Do my actions at home contradict the values I try to teach my children?
How much time do I spend in sincere Dua for my children's guidance?
Weekly Protocol
Steps to learn this lesson.
