Islamic Ethics & Character • Lesson 4.7
Curriculum Breakdown
Justice and Fairness
Justice (Adl) is the balance upon which the world stands. A believer must be a witness for justice even if it is against themselves.
Introduction
Allah commands: "Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct..." (16:90). Justice is not just legal; it is a moral obligation in every interaction.
Justice in the Family
Parents must be just between their children, and husbands and wives must be just in their expectations and treatment.
Social Justice
Standing up for the marginalized and oppressed is a Prophetic duty. We should not be neutral in the face of injustice.
"Help your brother, whether he is the oppressor or the oppressed. (By stopping the oppressor from continuing)."
The Prophet (ﷺ)
Modern Applications
Be fair in your business dealings—no hidden fees or deceptive marketing.
Don't judge a situation until you have heard all sides.
Treat all people equally, regardless of their background or status.
Critical Reflection
Am I biased when it comes to my friends versus my competitors?
Do I speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves?
Is my sense of justice consistent, or does it change based on my personal interest?
