Islamic Ethics & Character • Lesson 4.6
Curriculum Breakdown
Forgiveness and Mercy
Being merciful to creation is the way to earn the mercy of the Creator.
Introduction
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Be merciful to those on earth, and the One in the heavens will be merciful to you." (Tirmidhi).
The Power of Forgiveness (Afw)
Forgiving those who have wronged us is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of spiritual strength. It releases the heart from the burden of resentment.
Mercy to All
This mercy extends to enemies, to animals, and to the environment. Islam is a religion of compassion (Rahma).
"Allah does not increase a servant who forgives except in honor."
The Prophet (ﷺ)
Modern Applications
Let go of minor grudges from "toxic" social media interactions.
Show compassion to someone who has committed a mistake.
Practice self-forgiveness while maintaining the resolve to do better.
Critical Reflection
Am I holding onto a grudge that is eating away at my peace?
Do I expect Allah to forgive me if I am unwilling to forgive others?
How can I be a source of mercy in my own family?
