Islamic Ethics & Character • Lesson 4.5
Curriculum Breakdown
Generosity and Charity
Generosity is a characteristic of Allah (Al-Karim), and the believer should reflect this quality by being open-handed with their resources.
Introduction
Sadaqah (charity) is not just about money. Any act of kindness, a smile, or a helpful word is an act of charity.
Quranic Foundation
"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven ears..." (2:261). Charity never decreases wealth.
The Spirit of Giving
Giving should be done without expectation of return or praise. The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of people, especially in Ramadan.
"A generous person is close to Allah, close to Paradise, close to people, and far from the Fire."
Ali ibn Abi Talib
Modern Applications
Be generous with your time—listen to someone who is grieving.
Be the first to offer help when you see a need.
Incorporate regular, small-scale giving into your life.
Critical Reflection
Am I tight-fisted when it comes to supporting others?
Do I give only when it is convenient for me?
How does it feel when I give without someone knowing it was me?
