Islamic Ethics & Character • Lesson 4.3
Curriculum Breakdown
Trustworthiness
Amanah is the quality of being reliable with what has been entrusted to you—be it resources, secrets, or responsibilities.
Introduction
Before he was a Prophet, Muhammad (ﷺ) was known as "Al-Amin" (The Trustworthy). Amanah is a pillar of the believer's identity.
Types of Amanah
1. Amanah to Allah (performing duties).
2. Amanah to people (safekeeping of property and secrets).
3. Amanah of the Self (health and time).
The Weight of Trust
Allah offered "The Trust" to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, but they declined; humans accepted it (33:72). Fulfilling it is our core test.
"There is no faith for the one who has no trustworthiness."
The Prophet (ﷺ)
Modern Applications
Be a "safe haven" for other people's secrets.
Return what you borrow in the same or better condition.
Treat your job responsibilities with the weight of a sacred trust.
Critical Reflection
Do people feel safe when they entrust me with something valuable?
Am I punctual with my time and promises (Amanah of time)?
Do I gossip about secrets that were told to me in confidence?
