Islamic Ethics & Character • Lesson 4.13
Curriculum Breakdown
Digital Ethics
The digital realm is an extension of our reality. The same rules of character apply—honesty, modesty, and kindness.
Introduction
In the digital age, our "words" reach thousands. This increases our responsibility to be truthful and beneficial. Every comment and like is recorded.
Avoiding Toxic Interactions
Cyber-bullying, spreading rumors, and "cancel culture" are contrary to Islamic ethics. We should not use anonymity as a shield for poor character.
Protecting Privacy (Sutrah)
Islam emphasizes guarding one's privacy and the privacy of others. Avoid voyeurism and over-sharing that leads to vanity (Ujb).
"Before you speak (or post), let your words pass through three gates: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?"
Traditional Proverb
Modern Applications
Think for 10 seconds before hitting "send" on a reactive comment.
Verify news Before sharing it (49:6).
Use social media as a tool for learning and "reminding" rather than comparison.
Critical Reflection
Is my digital persona "real" or "curated" to gain praise?
Do I speak to people online in a way I would never speak to them in person?
How does my digital usage impact my heart and my connection with Allah?
