Curriculum Breakdown

Labor Rights, Fair Wages, and Worker Dignity

In Islam, workers are brothers and sisters who must be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.

Foundations

Pay the worker his wages before his sweat dries. (Prophetic Hadith). Wages must be sufficient to provide for the worker's fundamental needs and those of their family.

Humane Treatment

Do not overburden workers with tasks beyond their capacity. The relationship between employer and employee should be one of partnership, not exploitation.

"Your servants are your brothers whom Allah has placed under your authority... do not task them beyond their power."

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Modern Applications

  • As an employer, ensure fair wages and a safe, respectful environment.

  • Advocate for the rights of marginalized workers in your community.

  • Promote a workplace culture characterized by "Ihsan" (excellence) and "Rahmah" (mercy).

Critical Reflection

  • How would I want to be treated if I were in my employee's position?
